Micro and Nano Fluidics:Particulate Flow |
||||
The motions of a single particle and many particles in conduits of various shapes are simulated using a custom-developed, computer code, the Particle Mover. The code accounts for the effect of the particles' presence on the flow field. The particles are propelled by the action of pressure, electrostatic, and magnetic fields. The particles can be cells, beads, or large molecules. The equilibrium positions of and the drag on particles flowing in pores and conduits are computed. These predictions are essential for the correct interpretation of the readings from various "pore-based" sensors used for DNA and protein identification. The interactions among many beads are also computed. This work is relevant for bead-based processing |
