Summer Internships
MEAM Summer Internships
These two summer internships are designed to support undergraduates
in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics
in pursuing summer research and design projects. Proposals for projects
that are initiated by the students and do not have an alternative
source of support from funded faculty research projects will be
given special consideration. Projects with a creative or entrepreneurial
focus are especially encouraged.
The Jacob M. Abel Summer Internship seeks to promote
excellence in undergraduate education in the Department of Mechanical
Engineering and Applied Mechanics in SEAS. This internship provides
a stipend of up to $3900 to assist undergraduate students in pursuing
summer research projects. A special focus of this internship is
the development of experiments in the undergraduate laboratory sequence
and the support of creative design projects.
The Herbert J. and Selma W. Bernstein Class of 1945 Internship
provides financial aid for undergraduate mechanical engineering
students involved in summer research projects. A stipend of up to
$3900 will be awarded to support independent research projects initiated
by MEAM students.
Applications:
To apply, students must submit a current resume and a reasonably detailed description of the project (at least 1 page), including budget covering the period during which the work will be performed, to Ms. Olivia Brubaker (229 Towne Building, email to: oliviarb@seas.upenn.edu).
Deadline:

SUNFEST08
Summer UNdergraduate FEllowship in Sensor Technologies
SUNFEST is a unique program that provides talented undergraduate students with hands-on research during the summer in the area of sensor technologies. Each year an average of 10 students, ending their sophomore or junior year of college, are selected from various universities nationwide based on their academic record and attitude towards research. The program is open to students in engineering and the physical sciences. The purpose of this program is to expose the students to real, in-depth research in the area of sensor technology and to motivate them to go on to graduate school. An application package can be downloaded from the homepage. A list of former SUNFEST students and a brief description of their research are given further in this document. This program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation as a REU Site (Research Experience for Undergraduates) and the Center for Sensor Technologies at the University of Pennsylvania.
