Tasks, Forms and Letters

 

Below are procedures for common tasks required of and by MEAM master’s students. All tasks listed here must be initiated and completed by students. MEAM staff and faculty cannot do these tasks for students.

MEAM master’s students should contact the MEAM Graduate Program Coordinator with any questions about tasks and procedures.

Any exceptions from the MEAM MSE curriculum policies and procedures as outlined in the MEAM MSE Student Handbook will be handled by petition.

MEAM Master’s students may petition to customize their course plans by submitting a MEAM MSE Academic Program Request.

MEAM MSE Academic Program Request

  1. Visit the Path Forms website.
  2. Select “Declare/Update Field of Study”.
  3. In this form, select “Add additional major and/or concentration”
  4. Select “Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM)” as both the “Current Primary Major” and the “New Major/Minor”
  5. Select the appropriate concentration and submit the form.

All MEAM Master’s students must check in each semester to clear their Advisor Holds for registration.

Students should download and fill out the pdf form (typed responses only) and submit it to the MEAM MSE Program Check-In Form.

MEAM Master’s students pursuing an Independent Study or the MEAM Master’s Thesis must submit a proposal at least 3 weeks before the start of the semester in which the Independent Study or Thesis research will commence.

  1. Visit the Path Forms website.
  2. Select “Declare/Update Field of Study”.
  3. In this form, select “Change/Swap a major and/or concentration”
  4. Check the box next to your current “Field of Study” and concentration.
  5. Select “Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM)” as the “Major”.
  6. Select the appropriate concentration and submit the form.

Visit Penn Engineering’s Office of Academic Services to access forms for internal processes including the following:

  • Leave of Absence (and Return) or Withdrawal Request
  • Dual Major or Degree Application
  • Program Transfer Request
  • Transfer Course Credit Request
  • Apply for Graduation

OAS Graduate Forms and Requests

Penn Engineering’s Office of Academic Services can help students fill out external insurance or loan forms that require a school official’s signature or school seal.

Request to Fill Out a Form

F-1/J-1 students are required to maintain full-time enrollment during the academic year. Students may request to drop below full time studies (fewer than 3 CUs) in a single semester by applying for an RCL for one of three reasons:

  • Completion of Study (Final Semester)
  • Academic Difficulties (for first semester only)
  • Medical Conditions/Emergencies

The Office of the University Registrar can produce a letter to verify student information, including for the following:

  • Student’s name of record with Penn, graduate program(s) and/or degree type(s)
  • Enrollment/full-time status (for current or past terms only)
  • Student’s dates of attendance
  • Degree conferral date(s) (for alumni)

The MEAM Graduate Program Coordinator can produce a letter for international students returning to the US from overseas. This includes letters for late re-entry.

  • Credentialing information
  • Accreditation information

International students can request an invitation letter to the May Commencement ceremonies for their guests through ISSS. Use the visitor template and follow the webpage’s information and instructions.

Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Association (MEGA)

Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Association (MEGA) is a forum for academic and social interaction among the graduate students in MEAM.

Graduate Student Engineering Group (GSEG) is a group of graduate students from Penn Engineering who act as the mid-level meta-government for the MSE and Ph.D. programs.
