Overview

Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM) at Penn focuses on our high-caliber undergraduate and graduate programs, which combine solid education in the fundamentals with hands-on research into novel problems and applications. Small class sizes allow students to work intimately, and a strong emphasis on analysis prepares students for research as well as for industry. Our students have many opportunities to explore their research interests, including major student-run projects such as the Solar Car, the Blimp and Robocup.

Mechanical Engineering research at Penn is highly interdisciplinary. Penn's "One University" philosophy makes Penn Engineering the ideal place for cross-boundary projects--there are no barriers between departments. With a strong emphasis on analytical and mathematical research, MEAM researchers are doing fundamental work in creating a new kind of mechanics for future technologies.

As you browse through these pages, I hope you get a sense of the exciting opportunities in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at Penn. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the department or our programs.
