Faculty Positions
Tenure-Track Positions
The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM) within the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Pennsylvania seeks outstanding applicants for tenure-track or tenured positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.
The Department seeks applicants with innovative and impactful research agendas, a dedication to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, and a commitment to fostering and building our scholarly community. An applicant’s future research should be rooted in mechanical engineering and coupled with at least one of the Department’s core disciplinary strengths in mechanics of materials and structures, fluid mechanics and thermal sciences, and robotics and mechanical systems.
The Department has grown substantially in recent years and is positioned for continued impact within the Penn Engineering 2030 Strategic Plan. Our faculty collaborate with researchers across the University and engage with leading centers and initiatives at Penn, including the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing, and Perception (GRASP) Laboratory, the Penn Institute for Computational Science (PICS), the Innovation in Data Engineering and Science (IDEAS) initiative, the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM), the NSF Engineering Research Center for the Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture (IoT4Ag), and the Center for Precision Engineering for Health (CPE4H). The Department encourages candidates who can leverage and add to these relationships.
Penn Engineering strongly supports dual-career couples, and we welcome and encourage inquiries about dual career assistance (for academic and non-academic opportunities) at an early stage of the recruitment process.
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. Applications must be submitted online through Interfolio and include a cover letter (limit of 1 page), curriculum vitae, teaching statement (limit of 2 pages), research statement with abstract (limit of 3 pages), and names and contact information of three references. For full consideration, please apply by January 6, 2026. Application review will begin in December, so early applications are encouraged.
For technical assistance with your application, contact Interfolio Scholar Services by email at help@interfolio.com or by phone at (877) 997-8807 from 9:00 – 6:00 EST on Monday – Friday.
